Company and Branch Registration in Iraq
In Iraq, the Companies Law No.21 of 1997 (as amended) and the Systems and Branches of Foreign Companies Law No.2 of 2017 are the two main pieces of legislation governing the establishment of companies. Both laws are viewed as the legal basis for registering Iraqi companies, including those owned by Iraqis, partners with an Iraqi, companies wishing to open a branch in Iraq, or companies that can only be owned by Iraqis, such as commercial agency companies registered in accordance with the Commercial Agencies Law.
